Navigation apps like Google and Apple lack lane-specific awareness and can't fully support hands-free driving. For safe autonomous driving, drivers need to trust the vehicle's situational awareness, all while minimizing cognitive load. Ford partnered with ANML to create a prototype for a more intuitive hands-free navigation experience.
ANML focused on providing only the necessary information and visual data limiting distraction. Utilizing a minimalistic 3D rendering style, we established place while limiting visual noise ultimately creating a simulated experience of a point A to point B trip for testing purposes.
Our team began to determine a journey from point A to point B, making sure to include a defined set of key features such as lane changes, adjacent vehicles, and assisted driving functions. With a way to simulate an actual journey, the Ford team could test interactions, and demo to stake holders quickly and efficiently. We captured video footage of the entire journey along with telemetry data to pair with simulated experience.
ANML established a framework that assigns the center stack to the overarching journey, placing situational awareness in the instrument cluster. Think “where we’re going vs. where we’re at”.
